Base of a Sculpture of Surya
North India, Mathura region
Gupta Dynasty (300–699 C.E.), 6th–7th century
Red sandstone
"The sun god Surya was driven daily across the sky in a chariot drawn by seven horses. These are shown here, one in the center facing forward, and three at each side. The driver of the chariot Aruna, the dawn, is shown seated in a niche above the central horse. In this fragmentary sculpture, only the knees of Surya remain."

Oh, Kansas City….you have some wonderful fountains. Used to visit KC for Hallmark Cards, a client. One time, the dietitians had a profession meeting there.

Yes, supposedly more fountains than Rome and more boulevards than Paris but I’m not sure who counted. 🙂

I’d believe the count….the fountains in Rome are far and above KC…no offence, regardless of quantity. Still, fountains are wonderful. the more the merrier. La Dolce Vita!!

The treasures left behind by ancient civilizations are the history of the world, I hope we will protect them. Thanks, Maverick. Have a great Saturday.
