"Endangered Species Day was created by a Senate resolution in 2006 to encourage “the people of the United States to become educated about, and aware of, threats to species, success stories in species recovery, and the opportunity to promote species conservation worldwide.” It has since been celebrated in May by countries such as Australia, Bahamas/Nassau, Belgium, Belize, Canada, Costa Rica, England, French Polynesia, India, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Peru, Scotland and Sweden, the coalition reports." * -- Tiger Conservation Groups

“One saw a bird dying, shot by a man. It was flying with rhythmic beat and beautifully, with such freedom and lack of fear. And the gun shattered it; it fell to the earth and all the life had gone out of it. A dog fetched it, and the man collected other dead birds. He was chattering with his friend and seemed so utterly indifferent. All that he was concerned with was bringing down so many birds, and it was over as far as he was concerned. They are killing all over the world. Those marvellous, great animals of the sea, the whales, are killed by the million, and the tiger and so many other animals are now becoming endangered species. Man is the only animal that is to be dreaded.”

Reblogged this on Anything is Possible! and commented:
I pray we will save them. The tigers, the wolves, the whales… all gifts of creation. All to be treasured, alive and well. Anything is possible.

The human race destroys and destroys some more with no regard for the consequences – it’s tragic

I would guess they’re mostly driven by greed and I agree it is tragic.

Beautiful photos. I just don’t get the desire to destroy something that’s alive. How cruel and what a terrible theft of beauty.

Thanks D, and I concur with what you’ve so aptly said, “what a terrible theft of beauty”.

Such beautiful creatures, Tigers. Looks so cute, I’m almost tempted to play with him. Then I remember he’s a wild creature capable of killing me. I think this could be one reason some like to kill them; it makes them feel powerful. As for the smaller creatures who become fodder for bullets, I couldn’t say. Hopefully, this practice will be obliterated by the more powerful machine: Evolution toward right thinking~

“It makes them feel more powerful” is another probability and evolving is an optimistic view we should definitely strive and hope for.

Far too many species on this list. I hope it’s not too late to save many of them. Wonderful shots!
