Eurasian eagle owl (Bubo bubo)
"The Cherokee honor both the owl and the cougar for watching over Earth for seven days during creation; the creatures are often associated even in appearance, as the wide eyes of the owl resemble those of the cat. As a culture that views animals as intelligent beings with spirits, the Cherokee sometimes endow the owl with a personality akin to that of a wise old man."
Isn’t he striking? Yes, definitely like a wise old man.

Big too. I believe they’re one of the largest owls.

We have a snowy owl, that is a blessing to see on a cold winter day perched on a power pole.

Do you think they are calm because they’re wise, or wise because they’re calm?

Calm because they’re wise. Understanding leads to calmness I would suppose. 🙂

This is by far the most intricate picture of an owl I have seen.

Nice shots and processing. Interesting that the Cherokee creation is seven days.

Thanks David, I read once science believed it to be seven days as well. Longer days than we have I imagine. 🙂

Such details on the feathers that you have captured. One can see why the Cherokee would honor them with their wise looks and almost human eyes.

Yes I agree, and their eyes do look almost human.

Beautiful pictures of the Owls and they do look wise. The Cherokee people saw animals and nature much more closer to them and they might very well have got it right.
