“Bees and monarchs play an important role in pollinating plants. Monarch butterflies help pollinate crops and wildflowers as they make their annual migration to Mexico from the U.S. and Canada.”
“Bees are responsible for pollinating 70 of the top 100 food crops consumed by humans, and there are at least 10 food crops that are fully or significantly dependent on bees. When the bees are gone, those foods will go away as well. Both species are in danger and need our help…” 5 Ways to Help
Bees sip honey from flowers and hum their thanks when they leave.
The gaudy butterfly is sure that the flowers owe thanks to him.

Beautiful pics and NOBODY seems to take the threat to bees seriously. Maybe they will once it’s too late and the world suffers the worst shortage of food it’s ever known.

Is that a milkweed that the monarch is sipping from?

I believe it is a milkweed, Asclepias tuberosa.

I just planted some milkweeds in my garden, the ones that are native around here: A. fascicularis and A. speciosa. I’m not very familiar with milkweed so I don’t know quite what to expect when they grow up and bloom. I’m hoping to attract some Monarchs.

That’s great. They’re pretty hardy plants so hopefully you’ll get some Monarchs dining.
