Decoration Day

Sleep, comrades, sleep and rest
On this Field of the Grounded Arms,
Where foes no more molest,
Nor sentry’s shot alarms!

Ye have slept on the ground before,
And started to your feet
At the cannon’s sudden roar,
Or the drum’s redoubling beat.

But in this camp of Death
No sound your slumber breaks;
Here is no fevered breath,
No wound that bleeds and aches.

All is repose and peace,
Untrampled lies the sod;
The shouts of battle cease,

  6. Beautiful post. Gorgeous photos, the poppies are a lovely touch. The poem by Longfellow is perfect for capturing a somber mood, while we remember the purpose of today. Great music video. Wishing you well this Decoration Day. ~ Mia xo

Perfect day for it, I was considering using, “Martyrs of the Race Course” but I thought it would be far too obscure. Yes, please share some sun, again it’s quite overcast here today, even chilly.       • “Martyrs of the Race Course” would have been unique. I almost went with “Memorial Day”. 🙂 Our weather is reversed as it was mostly sunny in the 70’s here today, thank you very much.
