Gorgeous flowers! I can’t help but think of orange juice and champagne though when I see the word Mimosa. 🙂

We have this tree here, and in the late afternoon the flowers look all shriveled up as if dying. In the early morning, however, they become erect again and beautiful.

This was what I was thinking of when I saw your tree, like perhaps they were related. Mimosa can be invasive and messy but the flowers are fragrant. I took these shots this past Sunday morning after a brief rain shower.

Yours looks a bit bigger but by the leaves and blooms I know they are related. Yes they are messy, but hummingbirds love these and they are fragrant as you say.

Yeah these seemed a little larger than usual, and you’re right about hummingbirds liking them along with butterflies.

I realized I have misnamed my tree. My tree is like yours; it is a tree, not a shrub, so I have to revise the whole post. They are related in that they are both from the Fabaceae/Mimosaceae family. Thanks.

Whatever you call it, it’s beautiful as are all your amazing photos on your blog.

Calliandra (the one I used) is a genus of flowering plants in the pea family, Fabaceae, and subfamily “Mimosoideae”. This is when they start getting mixed up, and then a series of shrubs which are the “calliandra” genus have an almost identical flower. Thank God I saw your post. I had to change everything since mine was definitely the tree. Look at the “Calliandra genus” here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calliandra
They are mostly shrubs, and they can get big. But mine was the tree. Thanks so much!

How weird is that.. I took a photo much the same on the weekend of this interesting flower and wondered what shrub it was, thinking maybe a kind of bottlebrush so thank you for posting your lovely photo.
